Travelling with a group of people is a rewarding experience, but it also requires careful planning and coordination. Cape Town offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, cultural richness, and exciting activities that can cater to diverse interests within a group. This guide will help you navigate the city’s best sights and activities to make your group travel in Cape Town exciting and memorable.

Exploring Cape Town’s Must-See Attractions

Cape Town is famous for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture. When travelling with a group, it’s important to choose activities that can accommodate everyone comfortably and offer shared experiences.

No visit to Cape Town is complete without ascending Table Mountain, named one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature; it definitely is a must-see. You do not necessarily need to book a specific tour; you can just turn up, get a ticket and go. If the weather is nice and the sun is out, expect queses! So try not to plan anything time-dependent, as you never know how long it will take. On the other hand, do check the website to see if it's working, as low visibility or bad weather means the cable cars will not be working.

The top of the mountain has shops, restaurants and breathtaking views.

V&A Waterfront - Boat Cruises

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is a lively hub with shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. It’s ideal for groups because it offers a variety of dining choices and open spaces to gather. But the main appeal is the various boat cruises, from public boats to private tours, depending on group size, you can find something to enjoy. We had a boat to ourselves, which was absolutely lovely, and you can pick a theme to show up and show out. Book the same cruise here.

A historical site that resonates deeply with visitors, Robben Island tours provide insight into South Africa’s past. Group bookings are recommended since tours fill up quickly. The ferry ride and guided tour create a shared experience that encourages reflection and conversation. To avoid having to deal with the bookings, you can book here.

If you love the beach and you love penguins, then Boulders Beach is for you. Situated is about 45 minutes from Cape Town; it's a great activity to share with a group. To maximise your time, it is recommended that you do a tour combining multiple landmarks, such as Cape Point, Chapman's Peak and Cape of Good Hope.

Activities That Work Well for Groups

Finding activities that engage everyone can be tricky, but here are some tried and tested recommendations for groups.

Cape Town’s nearby wine regions are perfect for group travel. The Fransceock wine tram is a great activity for groups, you are able to try 3-4 farms in a day. We made sure to visit a black owned wine farm, Klein Goederust, as well as doing Sabrage at Rickety Bridge (unfortunately, they do not offer this experience anymore)

While being a smaller group offers you the luxuries of picking and choosing on the day, you must book with each farm prior to visiting if there are generally more than 6 of you. This booking includes transport from Cape Town, making the journey seamless.

Quad biking works as a great activity for a large group; you can book a whole slot. The Atlantis Dunes is a must experience with fine sand and blue, clear skies. The experience is amazing, and the pictures are phenomenal. We used this booking company, and I would definitely recommend it. Do read the T&Cs as there is a gate fee and they ask you to come earlier.

If you love to see animals, experience tranquil spa services, and Aquila Private Nature Reserve is a great choice for a day trip. About two hours from Cape Town, you can see magnificent animals close up. They also have a lovely spa you can use at an extra cost, and depending on your package, you get access to breakfast/lunch buffets. We did the full day tour, so we got a long tour and time to chill at the Reserve. Would recommend booking directly and hiring your own transportation.

A bit different to everything else, but this is honestly the best Afternoon tea I have had, coming from someone who has had a plethora in England. Mount Nelson provides a 3-course tea experience with a welcome drink, an assortment of tea and hot drink options, sweet and savoury bites, and if that wasn't enough, there is a cake buffet on offer too. You will certainly get full with all the variety. The hotel is also known for its very pink exterior, giving you a stunning background for pictures.

Lastly, for a more hands-on activity, try a cooking class with Food Jams. There are various menus and types of classes to choose from. A different but fun activity for a group, where at the end you all sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labour. If you go for your birthday, they offer a complimentary cake and gift, which is a lovely addition.

There is so much more to do in Cape Town, but these are a few standout options that have been tried and tested with a large group. All activities are linked.
